MDTFC 1st Team Secure The 3 Points versus Spalding United

By

10 Points From The Last 4 Games

Manager Martyn Davies had to ring the changes due to a number of players being unavailable due to injury.

James O'Reilly moved to the centre of defence alongside Andy Hartlebury, with Sean Griffiths and James Bennett-Tindall taking up the wing back positions.

Also great to see the versatile Matthew Johnson back at MDTFC - being named as a substitute.

The heavy rain before and during the game made the pitch heavy going and was to prove a test of stamina for both teams.

Drayton started the game in attacking mode and were nearly rewarded early in the game with the ball striking the cross bar. The Spalding keeper Michael Duggan was in fine form and thwarted MDTFC on a number of occasions - including a first class double save both from close range.

Spalding were proving to be a handful on the break with their skills and pace and caused more than a few problems from corners.

Drayton had wasted a number of chances to take the lead and then up steps the versatile Tyrell McFarlane to put the ball in the back of the net to give MDTFC a 1-0 lead.

Ash Rawlins had been called upon to make several class saves including one from a free kick just before half time.

Half Time: MDTFC 1 Spalding United 0

The start of the second half saw Spalding putting Drayton under a lot of pressure and it required some resolute defending to retain the lead.

During this spell of pressure Spalding were awarded a penalty - taken by Gary King and duly saved by 'Mr Safe Hands'Ash Rawlins - much to the relief of the MDTFC Team and supporters.

This was an excellent all round performance by all the players who had to contend with the energy sapping conditions.

This victory means that we have taken 10 points from the past 4 games and moved up into 16th place in the League with 13 points; the right results over the next League games could see us continue to climb the League Table.
