At the outset of this early season match against Oxford University 3's, Laura advised that....."we take it to them"! and thats exactly what we did!
Our opposition were young, we were playing a university after all. Todays's Marlow 3's team was a mix of youth and experience. What we knew is that we had some excellent skills in our team so we had to use our skill and we did. At the end of the first half we were four nil up. The goals resulted from excellent team play, multiple short passes, lots of communication between players, and thus deserved rewards i.e. goals. Jo Goldie-Brammer scored all four of those goals with able assistance from other team members on each occasion. Unfortunately by the end of the first half we were also a man down after a recurring injury put the twelfth player out of the rest of the match.
Going into the second-half we came out hard. We had to keep playing strong, especially as we were now down to just 11 players. If anything, confidence grew and our passing got even sharper. What followed was some slinky hockey skills from all players but especially our three forwards Jo, Katie and Millie. Our defence did an excellent job at feeding perfect balls from defence through to attack. These passes really opened up the pitch and made for some very slick passing from player to player. Although we struggled to convert some of those passes to goals in the D the pressure was very much on the Oxford University defence. One strong run from Oxford university from the back of the pitch led to a lucky goal but two more goals from Marlow were enough to secure a very positive 6-1 victory. A fantastic team effort.
