U12s too strong for our visitors from Sheffield

Robust performance as John shakes things up

Early morning torrential rain and driving winds threatened to ruin the lacrosse fixtures, but as Sheffield managed to battle their way to Mellor over the tops it was game on!
An away win for Mellor against Sheffield a few weeks ago and the release of a new Fortnite battle pack on Thursday seemed to have all the Mellor boys in good spirits. Some very dodgy pre match dancing by James S , watched in horror by Ollie added to the buoyant mood! The crowd were hoping the boys would get their game faces on some time soon.
They weren’t disappointed as the first quarter saw Mellor race into a 4-0 lead. The goals shared between James K, Eddie and a brace for Miles P. There could have been more but for some excellent stops from the Sheffield Keeper using hands, stick, feet and chest.
Quarter 2 saw Mellor really turn the screw with a nine goal streak. Sheffield replied through an good passing move but Mellor goals from Eddie, Charlie, Finn, Miles, Theo, Sammy, snake hips Smith and a trademark ‘barnstormer’ from Robbie put distance between the teams.
Mellor smelt blood in the 3rd quarter as another 5 goals were added to their tally with only one in reply. This was slightly to the detriment of Mellors passing game as the boys decided direct running was the order of the day. Unfortunately, this left the ever mobile James K, Seb and Miles Q as partial bystanders.
The Mellor coach decided to rotate the team in the 4th quarter with James S moving into goal, Robbie into attack and Fredrick stretching those long legs in midfield.
Mellor continued their dominance with 6 more goals including the first of the match for Ellis. The highlight of the quarter being an unselfish pass from Charlie to an unmarked Fredrick who fired into the top bin!
Final Score 24-2.
Credit must go to Sheffield, particularly their keeper. Their heads never went down and they even declined the uncontested Face off to gain experience for their boys.
Overall a solid win for Mellor, Solid defence and an encouraging spread of goal-scorers. Enjoy it for now, tougher tests to come.
