Great to see some of our less regular players putting in such strong performances

Mellor roll on with victory against hard working Brooklands team

The new year began as 2018 ended for the Mellor U12s with another convincing win at home against a hard working but limited Brooklands team, who understandably tired in the second half given their lack of substitutes.

It didn’t start that way though. Brooklands won the first face off and duly ran through a non-plussed Mellor defence to immediately score and take the lead. Was James S captivating the defence with his dance moves? Was the Robbinator practising his ‘I’ll be back’ lines? Was Ollie deciding he should be a Man Utd fan like his dad after all? Who knows what was going on but an earth shattering ‘DEFENCE WAKE UP’ from John soon got their attention, and nearly deafened an already near deaf Fred !

The Mellor machine then clicked into gear and began to whirl. Miles ‘Gary Lineker’ P got them rolling with a brace (does he ever miss?), then a nice solo goal from Eddie, then Miles P again, with ‘Usain Bolt’ Sammy and ‘Ryan Giggs’ Charlie (on account of his sidestep rather than hairy chest) getting on the scoresheet to make it 6 - 1 after Q1.

The score in the second quarter was the same, with goals from Finn, James ‘snake hips’ S, Josh, Eddie, Cam and Miles P again only answered by one goal from the Brooklands #14 made it 12-2 at half time.

Brooklands had brought ten players only and this began to show in the second half as Mellor piled on the pressure. Goals from Eddie x2, Sammy x2, Cam, Josh, Finn, Ellis, Miles P, Robbie, Charlie, versus one from Brooklands made it 23 - 3 at the end of Q3. Into the last quarter, hat trick from Charlie, James K got one, Cam x2 and Sammy, with #14 scoring again for Brooklands made it a final score of 30 - 4.

Well done to Brooklands for their perseverance and not letting their heads go down. The game was played in excellent spirit and no sin bins for either team. Man of the match to Cameron, scoring four in what was only his third game of the season, on account of his footballing duties. Time to switch sports Cam !
