As we all knew today was going to be full on with the Sportsman’s Evening planned for 7pm.
With Nefyn Utd and Jez Shea (match official) agreeing to an earlier kick off of 2pm so we could get our 3 letter lotto in before the lads doing a dash to get home and back to the Victoria Hotel for the fund raiser.
Just before kickoff we received the sad news that former player and club legend Dewi Caughter had lost his father and as a mark of respect to Dewi and his family a minutes silence was observed prior to kick off.
From the off the lads were up for it and within 90 seconds Callum Davidson won the ball on the edge of the box and he played Andy Wannop in and Andy slotted the ball into the net to make it 1-0 to the Tigers.
For the rest of the half we defended brilliantly and created a few chances but we couldn’t extend our lead. As the Nefyn officials left the pitch at half time, I heard one of them say that we should be at least three if not four goals down.
Half Time – Menai Bridge Tigers 1 – 0 Nefyn Utd
Second half continued in the same way with Gethin Davies and Dave Roberts winning everything in midfield and giving Ryan Wood, Tim Evans and Callum Davidson the freedom to create chance after chance.
Dale Owens and Dion Williams worked hard on the flanks and the understanding between Ryan, Dale, Tim and Dion was brilliant. Richard Evans and Tom Davies controlled everything and Lee Moore tidied up the bits as and when called upon.
On the hour Richard Evans (carrying a knock) was replaced by Tom Parry who had just finished work and Tom being the versatile player he is slotted into centre half next to Tom Davies.
69 mins Tim Evans replaced by Owain Roberts
75 mins Dion Williams replaced by Callum Graves (home from the RAF)
Within minutes of coming on Callum Graves broke free down the right cut inside and hit a rocket of a shot that beat the keeper but smashed against the post.
As we were still only ‘Wannop” the game was still in the balance, on 89 mins we had a corner that was whipped into the box Gethin Davies towered above everyone only to see the ball smash against the crossbar as the ball fell in the group within the 6 yard box Andy Wannop was 1st to pounce and make the game safe.
