It was important today that the lads (New and Old) got off to a good start and during the warm ups all that Sean and Spon asked was a quick start. It todays squad we had 4 players in a Tigers shirt for the 1st time (Dean Redmond, Harry Jones, Shaun Lock and Kev Roberts) and 5 lads returning to the Bridge (Sion Hogan, Darren Gowans, Dave Clarke, Danny Camilleri and Ryan Owen).
We started with a very high tempo to the game and within the 1st 60 seconds Sion Hogan was inches away from scoring, in the opening 15 mins Sion Hogan had another half chance, Dean Redmond was put through and as he smashed it passed the keeper it grazed the crossbar.
On 16 mins a through ball by Dale Owens put Sion Hogan through on goal and his shot was saved but Sion headed the ball back across goal and a diving header from Harry Jones (on his debut) made it 1 -0.
We continued to play the high press and the back three of Tom Parry, Ryan Owen and Dafydd Healy had everything under control and Clarkey only had to deal with a couple of long balls over the top. With the bonus of Shaun Lock's rocket launching throw ins, Dafydd Healy and Ryan Owen were unlucky with two glancing header that just went passed the post and for some very tight offside calls we could have gone into halftime with more than just a 1 goal lead.
Half Time - Menai Bridge Tigers 1 - 0 Llanystumdwy
Llanystumdwy had come with a plan to try and stop the bridge from utilising the speed and strength of the attackers, and fair play their plan worked well for the majority of the game as they played very deep and defended their goal well. Callum Davidson, Shaun Lock and Darren Gowans were controlling the midfield and both wing backs, Harry Jones and Dale Owens worked well down both flanks.
65 mins Kevin Roberts (debut) came of for Callum Davidson to play a more holding roll in from of the defence
73 mins Dave Baston came on for Dafydd Healy and we reverted to a back four.
81 mins a cross from the left was met at the near post by Dave Baston and with the sweetest if touches placed the ball passed the keeper.
81 mins Danny Camilleri replaced Dean Redmond.
We were comfortable in control for what felt like the whole game but with only seconds left a ball over the top by llanstumdwy put there striker through on goal, from where I stood he looked at least a couple of yards offside and our linesman flagging the ref played on and the llan player placed the ball passed Dave Clarke but then showed a bit of complacency and stopped for a second but during this time Harry Jones came from somewhere and made the best last ditch tackle that's been seen on the King George's Field in a while and put the ball out for a corner.
