Blues share points in hard fought draw

By

The Blues had to settle with just a point in their last game of 2018

The League position of the home side 15 places below the Met gave the impression that this would be to the Met’s advantage but the reality of this fixture was exposed by the form guide. Chesham have strengthened and with 5 recent wins put them above Met in the form table. A further statement of intent was their recent signing of much travelled Jefferson Louis.

With both teams plying a passing game the game was even for the first half despite Jack Mazzone heading against the bar and Max Blackmore bringing a diving save from the home keeper in the first 20 minutes. And as the game progressed another Mazzone header brought a diving save from the home keeper and Ollie Robinson had what seemed a certain goal cleared off the line. But in the last 5 minutes of the half Met survived three clear cut chances for the home side as Jeremy Arthur and Luke Williams made telling interventions to keep the game goalless at half time

The second half saw Chesham emerged with far greater determination and took the lead on 47 minutes when a cross from the left eluded the Met defence as Clayton found himself unmarked at the back post to score from close range. The game became a slog for the Met who worked determinedly to frustrate Chesham who were now on the front foot. Met got their reward on 78 minutes when a mistimed defensive header fell to Blackmore who finished from close range. Suddenly it was the Met who were now looking most likely to win the game. But not to be, nevertheless it was a resolute display by the Met and a well earned point
