Myton Go Down To 2nd Home Defeat In A Row

By

Myton Warriors went down to a 16 -20 defeat against Hull Dockers at Marist Sporting Club Today. Penalties and knockon's were again Myton's downfall.

Hull Dockers put behind them last weeks below par performance to take the spoils in this local derby against Myton Warriors with a four-point victory 20-16.
Both sides never gave an inch in this tough encounter but it was the visitors who took their chances and were solid in defence. Myton did create opportunities of there own but were frustrated by not turning them into points.
Myton did open the scoring with just four minutes gone when on the back of a penalty a pinpoint cross field kick by Ashley James found brother Lee for a try. Ashley failed to convert and 4-0 was how it stayed until just shy of the midway point of the first half.
Dockers drew level with a Jon Eccles try when Dockers were awarded back-to-back sets off a neat Chris Stephenson kick through. Stephenson collected the ball back to send the second row forward crashing over the line. Stephenson missed the resultant conversion attempt.
Three minutes later they were in again when the half back combination of Stephenson and Andy Kay led to a trademark Nick Powley try as he cut in from an angle to go in. Kay took over the goal kicking to land the conversion for 10-4.
Seven minutes from the break Dockers further extended their lead with this time Powley having a part in the build up. He ran another superb angle for Stephenson to send in full back Danny Ullyatt for another Kay conversion.
Myton managed to reduce the arrears before half-time to just six points when on the back of a penalty second row forward Richard Dunham nipped through to score. Maybe a fortuitous try as brother Allan did look to knock on in the build up but Ashley James added the extras.
Two minutes into the second half Dockers extended their lead again this time to ten points when a great charge up the middle by substitute Callum Birch. The ball went wide, knocked into the arms of Steve Sellars for Martin Johnson to go in for his fourth try in two games.
It remained a ten-point ball game until four minutes from time when Myton made the last few minutes interesting. A great charge down the field by Myton prop Lee Fewlass saw a superb offload to Lee James for his second try of the game. Ashley converted but it wasn’t enough to see them down to their second consecutive defeat.
