By

Present Managers Reedy and Edgar, Bob, Vowdy, Birdy, Fozzy, El Tel, Connors, SuperSi, Little John, PubSi, Mad Willy, Peaky, Loz, Pauly, Young Pipey, Young John, Percy, Phil…….and Brenn!!! Absent Secretary Wrighty and a Goalkeeper!!!

Its always a tough game over at Hemingford against probably the best Veterans team in the area led by their talisman ‘Sedge’, an ex pro, who pulls all their strings, they even bought in some players from the Red Bull team for this game!!!

Manager Reedy was pleased to see the large turn out from the guys, especially most were aware of the opposition and considering the poor attendance at the last game. Reedy decided he was going to be too busy with team rotation to get involved!!!... Birdy and Percy were all too familiar with Hemingford so they withdrew for personal reasons and joined Mrs El Tel on the touch line giving their non vociferous encouragement !

Without a regular ‘keeper, the elusive Brenn volunteered, he turned up wearing a flat cap and the same clothes as the night before, after winning the local ‘Fred Dibnah’ lookalike competition.

Onto the game….Hemingford soon imposed their superiority and were 1 up within 5 minutes. a free header from 6 yards. They soon added a second when SuperSi lost the ball in midfield followed by his cry of “fcuk it”…..the ball was swiftly dispatched into the net followed by a chorus of more “fcuk its” from the players and management. They added a 3rd just before half time in slightly contentious circumstances, but it didn’t really matter.

Squad rotation during the match was easy as most wanted to be relieved of their duties. The second half was an improvement and we created some half chances. Midway through this half ‘Fred’ decided he recognised one of their players (possibly from some chimney in the past??) and duly passed straight to him totally unmarked on the edge of the box!!! Hemingford players don’t miss those gifts. In fairness ‘Fred’ did pull off some fine saves to keep the score respectable. Newmarket even squandered their best chance of the equaliser (in this half anyway) at the end when Connors blasted over from close in, ala Jesse Lingard!!

Post match drink and sandwiches together with most entertaining part of the morning, Bob’s Whatsapp videos??...enuf said!

Next week a home game v Studlands, we revert back to Laceys Lane, Exning (where it all started years ago)
