U11 Academy Girls’ Success at Festival

Norfolk United’s U11 Academy squad were in action this afternoon at a Junior Netball Festival, run by Norfolk Netball’s Development Officer Jenny Day.

At this age, girls haven’t had much opportunity to play competitively, so this was a much-appreciated opportunity to prepare for the forthcoming rally season.

Playing against two county hub squads, plus Trowse’s U11s, it was difficult to predict how we’d fare. But as the girls started playing at the mini tournament at Easton College, putting into action much of what they’d learnt at their academy training sessions, we saw some well-drilled passages of play.

NU had a large squad of 13 players who rotated on & off, but whichever combination we played, there was no weak link. We put in a solid performance in each of the three matches, winning all three.

My thanks go to Karla Snowling for helping to coach as well as umpiring.

I’m awarding tonight’s player of the match to Cara Bredican, who has returned from injury with fire in her belly. Tipping and intercepting time after time in her position of WD, she set up many of our goal-scoring opportunities.

Our next festival date is Tues 12 Feb.
