North Leigh Back to Winning Ways

By

Single second half goal enough to secure all three points

North Leigh 1 – 0 Mangotsfield United

The Millers, after a disappointing period, got back to winning ways with a hard fought victory that wasn’t pretty to watch but the players ground out a result and delivered a vital three points.
After less than two minutes a looping cross from the left to the back post was met by George Seacole who headed the ball back across goal and keeper George Dorrington only to see the ball hit the far post and quickly cleared by a grateful defender.

On eight minutes left winger for the visitors, Jordan Williams, went on a mazy run up the left brushing aside a number of tackles before reaching the bye line and crossing the ball into the Leigh box. Fortunately for the home the ball was cleared with difficulty.

That really was the finish of any exciting moments in a dull first half where defences were comfortable and creative players on both teams seemed bereft of ideas. Corners, free kicks around the opposing penalty areas and lofted centres were all cleared with ease.

With similar fare in the early minutes of the second half, the signs didn’t look good, but midway through the half, on 65 minutes, a Leigh attack down the right developed with the ball passed to Seacole who beat a defender cut in to the visitors box and hit a left foot shot that was blocked but deflected luckily to DeJon Noel-Williams who hit a hard shot past the keeper from 6 yards to break the deadlock.

The goal triggered more open attacking play by both teams with Mangotsfield in particular eagerly looking for an equaliser. Kane Simpson had a great chance on 82 minutes when put clear with only Manny Agboola, in the Leigh goal, to beat but he rushed his shot which cleared the bar with ease.
Leigh held on with relative comfort to record their first win for a few weeks.
