NUNEATON OLD EDS REVEAL NEW COACHES FOR 2017-18

By Sean Krauth

Two Wasps players to coach the Old Eds!

Following on from the good foundations laid by Coach Locky McCaffrey of Leicester Tigers last season, “ The Eds “ have appointed Jimmy Gopperth and Craig Hampson of Wasps as their Coaches for 2017-18 season.

For a level 7 Club operating in Midlands West 2 (South) League its an exciting prospect for their players development.

Jimmy Gopperth is New Zealand born, and played for the Junior All Blacks and in Super Rugby. In 2009 he signed for Newcastle Falcons for 4 seasons, before moving across to Leinster for 2 years. Jimmy is about to start his third season at Wasps as a Fly Half or Centre. 2016-17 was a remarkable season for Jimmy as he was named Aviva Premiership Player of the Year and Wasps Player of the Year. He was also the scorer of the Aviva Premiership try of the season against Saints and picked up the Gilbert Golden Boot Award(for the 3rd time) for the most points scored in the Aviva Premiership (221pts).

Craig Hampson is one of a talented group of Scrum Halves at Wasps who joined the Club in January 2016. Formally a player with the Yorkshire Carnegie and Bristol clubs. Following an outstanding season in 2013-14 with Yorkshire Carnegie he was selected at No.9 for the Championship Dream Team. At the age of 26 Craig has already coached several sides , last season assisting Warwick University.

We are delighted to have Jimmy and Craig to assist with the Coaching for the coming season, and from all at the Eds extend a warm welcome to them , and look forward to their input and training sessions.

Phil King is for the 3rd season running Club Captain and will be assisted by George Parker as Vice Captain.

With some good performances in the second half of the season , there is a positive mood in the camp. With most players remaining with the Club, and new coaches installed, Eds are looking forward to the challenge the League presents. Once again it’s a strong league of a good standard , with 8 Warwickshire Clubs in it.

Pre season training starts officially on Tuesday 4 th July,(7-00pm) with a players meeting, and then on Thursday 6th July(7-00pm) with Jimmy and Craig taking their first session !!
Club training then continues throughout July and August every Tuesday and Thursday. Good attendance is required !!!!!

Existing and new players of all standards are extremely welcome.
