Old Brods U12s travelled to York hopeful of good weather to enable them to play an open, expansive game. However the heavens opened as soon as the game kicked off and the pitch quickly deteriorated. Despite this Brods started brightly with some good forwa

The first half was a tight affair with the strong tackling from both teams. The Brods forwards were made to work hard at every breakdown to retain possession and force errors when York had the ball.

The Brods backs continued to run the ball at every opportunity, and made good ground on a heavy pitch. Eventually following a long and cleverly placed kick by Harris Morris, he was able to re-collect and managed to cross the line taking two York defenders with him.

The second half saw the Brods playing into the rain and the York forwards began to carry the ball with more confidence. Brods tackled well and competed for every scrap of possession. The forwards started to dominate the set piece and good runs from Elliot Adams, Sam Allen and Ben Stringer gave them territorial dominance. Despite the ever-deteriorating weather the Brods backs continued to run the ball and their efforts were eventually rewarded with a decisive second try by Liam Stapley.

The Brods were then invited to play a second game against a mix of Richmond and York players. The game started pretty much in the same fashion as the first had finished, with Brods having to defend their line against a larger Richmond/York pack. They were now visibly tiring and the fresher legs of the opposition began to tell.

The opening try for Richmond/York came from a well worked move after a line out on the Brods line. However Brods began to run the ball back at the home side with quality runs from Sam Robinson, Tom Atkinson and Jacob Edmondson. Eventually the Brods managed to score, when Stringer ran onto a short pass and drove over the line.

As the Brods continued to tire the expansive play of Richmond/York, which had to be admired in the conditions, really began to take effect and they scored two high quality tries to take the score to 21 – 5.
