Old Leamingtonians Rugby Club played host to around 150 British and Irish Lions Supporters on Saturday 8th July with the biggest match of the Lions careers on the big screen TV at The Crofts and 125 of them tucked into a full English breakfast before the kick off.
The match started at 8.35 a.m. and in readiness, the Mini and Junior Section Parents and Coaches on kitchen duty for the event started cooking at half past six and by 8.00 a.m. the queue was out of the clubhouse door.
This was the third Lions Test breakfast at the Old Leamingtonians Rugby Club, the previous two having been catered by the 1st XV players and the Ladies Rugby section.
With one match each to their credit it was inevitable that “the decider” between the British and Irish Lions and the All Blacks would be a well-attended event and people came from as far afield as Cornwall and Surrey to watch the game at the Crofts.
In the event an exciting and bruising encounter ended in a 15 all draw which also tied the series. There appeared to be a little confusion at the end of the match when some players expected extra time. Nevertheless a tremendous display by our boys.
Club Chairman Phil Eales said how delighted he was at the level of interest in Rugby and the OLs. He thanked all of the kitchen teams for their marvellous food and also thanked the volunteers who had attended the recent NatWest sponsored work weekend when the club was prepared for the new season.
Training has already commenced for both senior men and women and new players will be welcome to come down on Tuesday and Thursday evenings (Ladies on Wednesday).
