On This Day, This Week! 7th-13th January

By Liam Kent

There's goals-a-plenty in this week's look back at some of our previous victories.

Saturday 7th January 2006

We made it back-to-back wins and cleans in the first week of 2006 as we travelled to Bentley Colliery away and defeated them 3-0! This made it four successive victories for Don Gethfield's side as a Thomas Cresswell goal, and a James Larwood brace, saw us to victory.

Tuesday 8th January 2008

The 2007-2008 season will always be remembered for our Central Midlands Premier Division success and our run in the Notts Senior Cup but in the early stages of 2008, attention was on two other cup competitions. After progressing in the League Cup the previous week, we then defeated Appleby Frodingham 5-0 to move into the next round of the Floodlit Cup! There was five different Town scorers that day with Jamie Allan, Adam Atkinson, Chris Beard, Dean Hankey and Gary Panting all finding the back of the net.

Tuesday 11th January 2005

After a run of six games without a win in all competitions, we managed to bounce back in style in 2005 as we defeated Newark Town 4-2 away from home. Anthony Shaw scored a brace for us on his way to being our top 'scorer at the end of the season whilst Dean Hankey and Robbie May both got themselves a goal.

Saturday 11th January 2014

There was more success on the 11th January nine years later. It was another away trip, this time to Clay Cross Town, and we were 4-1 victors thanks to a Lee Easom hat-trick and a goal by Craig Roche.

Tuesday 13th January 2015

More Floodlit Cup success followed in 2015 as we defeated Brodsworth 4-0 . Jamie Senior's free-kick put us ahead at half time before Kye Pilmore doubled our advantage. Chris Hewitt then got in on the act with our third goal before Pilmore notched once again to finish the scoring.
Our team for the game was: Sprigg (GK); Horton, Bishop, Schofield, Carver; Armstrong, Russo, Stanton; Senior; Pilmore, Hewitt
