Ollerton Frustrated By Last-Gasp Equaliser!

By

Ollerton were denied all three points by a late, Swallownest equaliser on Wednesday night

Ollerton Town were forced to settle for a share of the points on Wednesday evening as Swallownest scored a late equaliser on a frustrating night down at The Lane.
The first twenty minutes of the game were a quite even affair with both teams having half chances to break the deadlock.
In the 26th minute however, Ollerton produced a moment of quality to take the lead. The ball broke for Conor Higginson on the edge of the area, he cleverly flicked it behind for Sean Dickinson and in he in turn slid the ball through for Gav King who gave the Swallownest 'keeper the eyes before sending him the wrong way to score his sixth goal in as many games.
Three minutes later and Ollerton could have doubled their advantage. Higginson held the ball up well once again before releasing Lewis Bingham who saw his shot clip the bar. The ball rebounded for right back Tom Cooke but his drilled effort hit a Swallownest defender on it's way to goal.
Ollerton went into the break with their noses in front and they almost stretched their lead early in the second period. With the first attack of the half, Dickinson found room inside the Swallownest area but he lifted his shot over the bar.
The woodwork was to deny the home side again in the 49th minute. Bingham fizzed a corner over from the right and it found Brandon Shaw in the middle and he thumped his header against the bar with the 'keeper beaten.
Moments later, there was a game-changing moment. Shaw was involved once again as he charged into the Swallownest area but before the left back could unleash a shot, he was hacked down just outside the area by Thomas Cropper. Everyone in the ground thought it was a certain penalty except the man in the middle, referee Matthew Malton waving play on.
Swallownest soon began to gain a foothold in the game and started to put Ollerton under more pressure, throwing everything but the kitchen sink at Dave Winter's men.
It looked like that pressure would produce no reward but in the dying embers of the game, Swallownest drew level. Jay Short managed to work room inside the Ollerton area and he slotted home past the dive of 'keeper Phil McGann.
Things could have gotten worse for the home side as Swallownest were generously awarded a free-kick on the edge of the area after Ollerton's Reece Conroy was grappled to the ground. Mitchell Ward stepped up and looked to have earned his side all three points but McGann produced a top quality save to keep the score at 1-1.
