My FA Cup: Low, Assenso & Owen

Defenders Alex Low, Isaac Assenso and Liam Owen take time out to discuss their FA Cup memories

Defenders Isaac Assenso, Alex Low and Liam Owen are loving the Emirates FA Cup this season, Low has progressed beyond the Preliminary Round for the first time and is now one good result away for the first round proper.

“This is a great opportunity to say you’ve played in the FA Cup” says Low “It is such a well-known competition, and if we keep progressing we can test ourselves against bigger and better clubs and maybe even get on the TV” .

Assenso is the epitome of calm when he is on the field and says this season’s cup run is his personal highlight in the FA Cup so far in his career “progressing in the FA Cup only has benefits for the club as a whole and players individually. We can get Ossett Town on the map and better known as well as doing the same and progressing our own careers”.

Town progressed to this round thanks to a penalty shootout win over 1874 Northwich, and despite seeing his penalty saved that was Low’s highlight so far “It was a great team performance, winning together like that especially as I missed my kick, the boys dug me out of a hole there”.

Low remembers the 1997 FA Cup final as his first when he was younger, Chelsea beating Middlesbrough with Roberto Di Matteo opening the scoring with the fastest ever Cup Final goal. Assenso’s earliest memory of a Cup Final is far less inspiring, however, as Arsenal and Manchester United played out a 0-0 draw.

Fellow defender Liam Owen, like Alex Peterson, was inspired by the 2006 FA Cup Final, Liverpool winning in extra time, 3-2, against West Ham.
