The Goats suffered their first defeat of the season in the WRU plate at Maesdu Road. They played this first half with a strong wind in there favour, and just on the fifteen minutes they were awarded a penalty just inside of the twenty two area which Arthur Lennon converted giving them the opening points of the match.

This first half was fairly evenly contested with both sides attacking and defending strongly, but it was the visitors who from a telling break that took the lead with a try by Jay Spear with Ross Jones adding an extra two points with the conversion just before the half time whistle.

The Goats at the start of the second period of play began to exert more pressure on the Nelson defence, and it was on the forty five minute mark that Ed Weston crashed over the try line for their only try of the match which Arthur Lennon also converted.

The Goats failed to use ball in hand to stretch the visitors defence by playing out wide to the wings, kicking away to often which limited many point scoring opportunities.

The visitors began to use their heavier pack in the set scrums, and driving mauls going forward which gave their backs the chance to take play well into the Goats half, and this brought rewards with two penalty conversions by Ross Jones.

They continued to use there forward platform to put pressure on the Goats defence, securing the match just on seventy minutes with a try by Jay Spear with Ross Jones adding two more points with a conversion.
