4 weddings and a baby!

By Rob Ingham

Away from footballing matters, 2018 will go down as a great year for some of Portslade's favourites

Although this will go down in the clubs history as one of the more challenging seasons, for some it is set to be one of the more memorable.

Okay, maybe not so much for footballing reasons, but because it seems there is lots of love in the air! A number of confirmed engagements within the club in the last 12 months, and the ongoing baby boom! A few PAFC congratulations to be dished out to Sean Trend, Tom Bendall, Dougal Tyrie, Rob Johnston and Matt Hornsby.

Long term girlfriend Laura gave into the boyish charms of Sean as he popped the big question in Canada, which was no doubt met by the scream of a 14 year old girl. Unfortunately for Sean, Andre Neto bagged 4 for the reserves, stealing the headlines on the special day. Dates still to be confirmed, so no need to panic just yet if your invite hasn’t arrived through the post.

Everyone’s favourite tractor boy, Tom Bendall, has been engaged to the lovely Irish Nikki for some time, but the big day only round the corner. Like a true footballing man, he’s made sure that the big day is off-season, and more importantly not clashing with the World Cup.

Dougal Tyrie is the first of the Scotsmen looking to tie the knot this year, popping the big question to rugby mad Ceri earlier in the year, who’s not only had to share Dougal with the club over the last few months, but also the demands of being a newly crowned school teacher (brave man). Dougal and Ceri look to seal the deal in June – all the best of luck guys!

Goalkeeping understudy, Rob Johnston, has been engaged for what it feels like an eternity! But just one month away up in Scotland, Rob and fiancée Lauren, became a fully-fledged husband and wife. Congratulations guys! We all hope that Rob will be able to return to regular goalkeeping duties soon, a player very much missed by the club.

Finally, and by all means not least, Matt ‘super-sperm’ Hornsby announced that girlfriend Gemma has a second bun in the oven, with baby due in early September. Unlike Tom and Dougal, not so great on the timing, as baby is due just as next season kicks off, but good news that all is healthy so far. Of course another boy is essential, if we have any ambitions to field a future baby XI.

Many congratulations to everyone, and all the best of luck for all the celebrations and all the plans coming up!
