After being postponed for 2 weeks due to the adverse weather, the groundsman worked overtime during the week to get the game on and even had it rolled!

Our Scholars are blessed to have such a beautiful pitch to play and proved yesterday how the beautiful game should be played with a thorough deserved 3-0 win vs Stevenage.

Quoting from an email from the Stevenage manager “Great game today.Your boys fully deserved their victory. Very impressive performance. Love seeing kids playing football the right way”

From the first to last minute, every player played at such a high level, working hard as individuals, as a team and producing some wonderful pass/move football that was a joy to be part of by players, coaches and the parents. Our new GK Brad gave an assured debut display, making some important saves and providing great distribution. The defence was originally martialed by Charlie and then Alex, who were both in great form with timely interceptions and strong tackles.

They had great support by the never say die attitude of captain Archie and Lambo who put in tackle after tackle and also set us on our way to attacking with measured intent. In centre midfield was Luis who was picking up the pieces and playing intelligent football to keep the boys ticking over, and helped allow the master class performance from the unplayable man of the match Luca Townend!

Luca covered every blade of grass, creating untold chances with his smart and energetic play – simply OUTSTANDING and capped his performance with a last minute goal too!

We also had strong performances from both Kyle and Jack, who were both a constant thorn in the away team’s side with the chances they had. Their GK made an excellent save from a Kyle super shot but Ellis was there to slot home to put us 1nil up, and then we went 2nil up with a trademark Jack goal finishing off a 4-man move. Not bad for a player who only stood up for the 55 minutes he was on the pitch that day! It must be said that close to unplayable was Ellis too, who up front held the line brilliantly, played with true grit and determination, rolling players as if they were not there, and his vision / touch was sublime, and so glad he was in the right place right time to put us 1nil up and then laying off for Jacks’ goal!

Well done to the players, parents and coaches – all top marks, and not forgetting the great tea/cakes from Tessa/Shelley/Tracy and I know the hot Ribena supplied by Sandra helped the boys too and we did even give some to the away team!
