Rainworth in Seventh Heaven

By

After Tuesday’s 6-0 victory over Armthorpe Welfare, the home fans expectations were high for the visit of Liversedge FC.

Tuesday saw Rainworth on the scoresheet after 11 seconds, today they had to wait a little longer.

It took all of three minutes for Rainworth to open the scoring today, as Liam Morris’s cross was met by Declan Brewin, who made no mistake placing the ball into the corner.

It was almost two, a minute later, when Morris set up Jamie Yorke, but his volley hit the inside of the post with Danny Crook a spectator.

The 8th minute saw yet another Rainworth attack almost result in a second but fortunately for Liversedge Brewin’s effort just cleared the crossbar.

It was then a superb run by Sykes but his cross found Morris at full-stretch and it was easily gathered by Crook.

Liversedge however didn’t learn their lesson and an identical move two minutes later saw Morris finish Syke’s cross this time for the second.

It was all Rainworth and Ricky Hanson’s run and cross found Sykes, but he put his effort over when well placed.

Another chance went begging when Brewin set up Morris but this time his effort was straight at Crook.

Rainworth must have wondered why the score-line was only 2-0 in their favour and they were soon punished when Liversedge pulled a goal back. Tino Kabwe bent his free-kick over the wall and into the top corner and give Sam Leigh no chance.

Rainworth immediately went down the other end and restored their two goal cushion. Syke’s corner was parried by Crook and Morris’s shot hit the upright, unfortunately for Liversedge it fell to Craig Morley and he made no mistake.

A couple of minutes later only a brilliant save by Crook prevented Rainworth increasing their lead after Connor Smythe’s run and shot in the area.

It was Smythe again in the 41st minute as Crook saved yet another goal-bound effort at the expense of a corner.

Liversedge’s rest bite was short lived as a brilliant through ball put Brewin through on goal and he stood Crook up and put it into the net.

Two minutes later it was Brewin again, but this time Crook blocks the effort only for Brewin to pass the rebound to Smythe and his sweet volley hit the back of the net for the fifth.

Right on half-time Rainworth almost made it six as Smythe’s cross was just intercepted with Morris waiting to pounce.

On the half-time whistle Liversedge must have been relieved that they only trailed 5-1 in a half completely dominated by a rampant Rainworth.

Rainworth were a little lethargic at the start of the second half, which was understandable such had been their dominance.

This changed in the 54th minute when Sykes‘s inch perfect ball found Brewin but he hit his effort straight at Crook.

Shortly afterwards and it was Syke’s who’s goal bound effort that was deflected for a corner.

A minute later and Rainworth had their sixth and it was a goal to saviour. The ball found Morris with three defenders between him and the goal, but within seconds, he had beaten them and the ball nestled in the bottom corner.

Rainworth made a double substitution bringing on Thomas Pereira and Liam Theakstone for Sam Dockwray and Declan Brewin.

Two minutes later Yorke found Morris and he made no mistake to get the seventh and for the second week in succession, his hat-trick.

The pressure was relentless and Sykes ran across the area and set up Theakstone but his effort went just wide.

It was Sykes once again, but this time he drove into the area, but his shot was wide of the upright.

Rainworth made their third and final substitution bringing on Lewis Bingham for Morris.

In the final minutes Rainworth’s tempo dropped which was understandable in what had been a magnificent effort by the whole squad.

On the final whistle the score probably didn’t reflect Rainworth’s dominance, but thirteen goals in the last two matches spoke for itself.
