RANGERS WIN IT FOR DERRICK

Huge win on an emotional day

On a day when the club paid tribute to President and co-founder Derrick Wallace who sadly passed away the previous Saturday it was a fitting way to celebrate his life with a win over second placed Broadfields United who at the time were unbeaten on their travels in the League to date. Before the start of the game a minute's silence was impeccable observed by all those who were present with a touch of class by our visitors as they presented Club Captain Joel Read with a bouquet of flowers in memory of Derrick at Kick-off.

Rangers started brightly in what was Mark Eaton's first home game in charge with only one change that had started in the defeat at Harefield the previous week with a return to the Club for goalkeeper Jack Brooker. As with the previous week Rangers saw a lot of the ball without really creating any clear cut chances, The Fighting Cocks were happy to soak up the Rangers pressure comfortably. In the 23rd minute Risboro' won a corner on the clubhouse side which was taken by Laurence Clark and was hit to the back post where skipper Joel Read ghosted in to head Rangers into a 1-0 lead. Broadfields then upped the tempo and started to push Rangers back and the pressure looked like it was to pay when in the 35th minute the Broadfields forward got in between Josh Urquhart and Joel Read and from the edge of the area sent a vicious shot to Brooker's right-hand side but the Risboro' custodian flung himself and with a one-handed flying save put the ball behind for a corner. Four minutes before the break it looked certain that a great Rangers move which gave Marcus Wylie the chance to double the hosts lead as he looked odds-on t to score and with the goal at his mercy somehow got under the ball and it ballooned high over the bar.

As expected Broadfields came out in the second period and put the Rangers back line under considerable pressure but the back four of Urquhart and Read flanked by Justin Gordon and Jason Castello stood tall and resolute and soaked up most of The Fighting Cocks attacks. Rangers were keeping their shape well and looking at every opportunity to release the ball forward quickly. Controversy was too come when in the 78th minute and a challenge by three Broadfields players on Ollie Lynch who came out with the ball led to a fracas involving both set of players resulted in Referee Jake Bloom booking Lynch and sending off a Broadfields. Once the game settled down and with a man advantage Rangers comfortably man managed the game out to gain the vital three points in a bid to climb the table and record Mark Eaton's Home managerial debut with a win.

Derrick would of approved.

Doesn't get any easier for Rangers as we now head to high flying Winslow United on Tuesday for a Division One Cup Quarter Final tie at Elmsfields Gate (k.o 7.45pm).

Risborough Man of the Match: A hard one to choose so speaking to the Manager Mark Eaton and 1st team Coach Nick Young they decided that it should be split between Josh Urquhart and goalscorer Joel Read, both were immense as the Centre Back pairing and defensively kept the Broadfields forwards under control all game.
