3 league wins on the run for the Town

Conwy Borough started the game on the front foot and were 2-0 up after 12 minutes. Gethin Maxwell getting the first after two minutes and Corrig McGonigle with the second, a rebound, after Ryan Goldston saved his penalty. Conwy could easily have had a third but for Ryan Goldston tipping a shot against the bar and then saving at the feet of onrushing Conwy strikers. A rattled Ruthin settled down when Tom Williams was upended in the box and Llyr Morris converted the resulting penalty. It was the visitors, however, who went in at half time with deserved lead.
Both sides played some good football during the second half with Conwy continuing to demonstrate why they started the season so well. Equally, Ruthin showed their all round ability as they looked for the equaliser.
Often when two teams are playing well it provides a platform for someone to do something inspirational. Enter stage left Tom Williams. With 52 minutes gone and Ruthin still looking for the elusive equaliser he picked up the ball on the left, just inside the Conwy half. He beat a man and struck what was a wonderful right foot shot from fully 35 yards which stormed over the keeper into the top corner. A wonderful goal.
Two minutes later the same player put in a great cross for Gwion Owen to head the ball back across the keeper for another good goal. All of sudden Ruthin are winning 3-2 and looked in control. Conwy still looked lively up front and were still in the match as both sides continued to look for goals.
As the game drew to a close Ruthin road their luck during the last 10 minutes as Conwy pushed for an equaliser of their own. Ryan Goldston was forced into two good saves and more importantly McGonigle missed his second penalty on 85 minutes by hitting the post making it a bitter sweet afternoon for him. Ruthin had chances of their own towards the end as a Lewys Turner shot went just wide but they were happy to win their third game in succession to consolidate their top 6 position.
