Another disappointment for Seaford Town on Saturday when they were unable to avoid defeat for the eighteenth time this season, although the ever elusive first point can surely not be far away after another spirited performance.
The games are certainly getting much closer and with Ben Barnett hoping to bring in a number of players before their next game in a couple of weeks their effort must be rewarded.
A goal in the 10th minute from the highly experienced and potent Lewis Hole was all that divided the teams at the Crouch, with Ben Head having his quietest game for some time in the Town goal.
Town welcomed Captain Tom O’Donnell back after a lengthy injury but he very much lacks match fitness and it will take a number of games before he gets back into the pace of the game. Mike Piperakis started on the right in place of the absent Ben Courtnage, while Dan Stannard switched to right back for Michael Flynn who was also unavailable.
Piperakis almost set up the equaliser for Matt Acton midway through the half, but was unable to add to the 3 goals he has scored in recent games, putting his shot over the bar.
After the interval Town’s confidence grew and they had a fair proportion of the possession but couldn’t find a way to breakthrough although Matt Hayward forced a fine save from the visitors goalkeeper after his surging run took him into the area, but his fierce drive was turned away.
Mitchell Ellingham, revelling in his new left back spot found Ross Gardner 5 minutes from the end but the striker shot straight at the ‘keeper and Town’s final effort of the game came to nothing.
There is no doubt Barnett has got the side working hard for each other but the frustration of not breaking through the points barrier is becoming evident with everyone, perhaps it will take a lucky break or piece of good fortune to turn things around, but there is still plenty of points to play for and that first one might just open the flood gates.
There’s no game for the first team on Saturday but the Reserves entertain Little Common at the Crouch, kick off 3.00pm
