Senior Presentation Evening

By Simon Ashton

A plague of Lithgo's descend on the Staincliffe.

The annual Senior Presentation Evening was held at the Staincliffe Hotel and was extremely well supported with over 100 players, partners and past-its attending.

The evening was compered by Capt. C. in his own imitable style, who with a tear in his eye announced his definite retirement from the game.

Only to then renounce that previous statement if we ever started a vets side!

In a change to previous years the evening was kicked off in style by the Ruff Diamonds Hip Hop Dance troupe. This local group have recently qualified for the World Championships in Las Vegas and treated us to some un-Peter Storey-esque dance moves. Those present responded in style and they managed to raise £170 for their trip.

A uniquely sober Kenny Braham opened with the Presidents Address and then John 'H' Harrison did the review of the season as always. The most prestigious award of the evening was presented to Matty Richardson-Harrison for the John Harrison Love Child Award.

General thought was a good solid season for both 1st and 2nd XV's but could have been better.

Club Captain Danny Charlton announced he was stepping down from the role he had held for three years. In that time he has done something ecellent things for the club including getting sponsorship for the club and arranging stash. He added "it is the best job and also the worst job!" He has decided to further his career in movies as they are looking for extras for The Hobbit Part 2.

The awards for the evening went as follows:

Most Appearances 1st XV - Danny Charlton and Murry Stockdale
Most Improved Player 2nd XV - Chris Noble
Most Improved player 1st XV - Graham Wilson
Player of the Year 2nd XV - Scott Burmiston
Player of the Year 1st XV - Lewey Humble
Top Try Scorer 2nd XV - Tom Addison
Top Try Scorer 1st XV - Lewey Humble
Clubman Award - Michael "IT Expert" Driver
Presidents Award - Billy Lithgo and Bernie

The presentation for the Presidents Award was especially poignant as it is the first time the award has been given to someone outside of the Rugby Club. Both Billy and Bernie deserve huge praise and the Standing Ovation they recieved from all the players recognised the efforts these have put in to refurbishing the club changing rooms.

After the awards the Guest Speaker Rev. Master Baites entertained us all with quotes from scripture documenting the birth of rugby in Seaton Carew. The video will be available for viewing once Si "David Bailey" Ashton works out how to compress the file to upload on to pitchero.
