Shepshed Dynamo 7 Loughborough F.C 1

By

Shepshed Dynamo are the Loughborough Charity Cup Winners for 2017 beating Loughborough F.C 7-1 in a one sided final but credit to The Luffs who play three levels below Dynamo they never gave up on the game and deserved their late consolation.

The difference in leagues was evident throughout the game and Shepshed's name was as good as on the cup fifteen minutes into the game.

Shepshed didn't sit back on their laurels and showed a professional approach to exert their league superiority on Loughborough from the beginning as early as four minutes Matt Gardner went close with a header from a long throw from Adam Hohn.

Loughborough then showed a rare glimpse they would take the game to Shepshed with Josh Adkin firing over Laurie Pearsons goal on six minutes.

Shepshed took the lead on ten minutes Liam Hurst cutting into the box on the right handside beating Henri Hamm with a fierce shot on his near post.

It could have been two a minute later Hamm advancing out of his area to stop Hurst doubling his and Dynamos tally then Michael Reeve was then denied by The Luffs defence when picking up the loose ball and from this rebound Joel Carta fired over.

Shepshed did get their second two minutes later Hohn's cross field ball finding Karl Whymark who crossed into the box. Gardner moved the ball out of his feet and slotted low into the left corner passed Hamm.

The tie was as good as over on fourteen minutes Hurst and Niall Prenderville linking up well with Hohn steaming in in at the far post his cross field ball found Gardner to tap in to make it three.

It was wave after wave of chances for Dynamo Hurst's ball across the box just too strong for Gardner on eighteen minutes. Then Reeve was bundled over on the edge of the box on twenty one minutes and Joe Pheasants free kick was cleared off the line. Gardner then went close a minute later and a further minute on Whymarks effort was blocked.

Shepshed continued to press for the fourth goal Prenderville firing over on thirty minutes then on thirty two minutes Carta's header was deflected onto the crossbar by Marc Findley.

Gardener got his hat trick and Shepsheds fourth on thirty nine minutes Whymarks deep cross found Pheasant just inside the box his pull back found Gardner to shoot home.

Gardner then made it five before half time with Cartas flick on was met by the head of Gardner to beat Hamm, Findley forlornly trying to keep the ball from going in.

Dynamo could have gone into the break further in front with Cartas shot saved by Hamm and Gardners header straight into Hamm. But The Luffs were to have a further effort as well Sam Bryans effort well wide of Pearsons goal after neat control and pass from Adkin.

The second half continued the relentless Shepshed pressure as substitute Abubaker Umars shot was deflected wide onto the post on fifty three minutes and a minute later Gardner headed wide.

Reeve then shot straight at Hamm on fifty nine minutes and straight after Umars shot was saved by Hamm.

Umar had two further chances one saved by Hamm on sixty one minutes and a minute later he was off target.

Shepshed searched for a sixth but for a long time the chances kept coming without delivering the next goal on sixty four minutes Jake Betts and Cart combined to find Prenderville but his effort was cleared off the line a minute later and Hurst fired over the top. Hurst then had a further effort blocked by Kieron Mcandrews on sevnty four minutes prior to that Hohns effort was cleared off the line and Prendervilles shot was straight at Hamm on seventy eight minutes.

Carta claimed Shepsheds sixth goal on eighty minutes beating two defenders to curl in off the left hand post and five minutes later Gardner scored his fifth of the final and Shepsheds seventh curling passed Hamm from right to left

With time running out it looked like Loughborough were denied a final chance of a goal with an offside but a mix up between the officials and Adkin was credited with a late consolation

Shepshed Dynamo were the worthy winners of the Loughborough Charity Cup with their dominance throughout the game but credit to Loughborough for never giving in.

A healthy crowd of 150 also saw hopefully a good amount for the Charities who will benefit from this seasons tournament.
