Injury Time Equaliser Leads To Extra Time Defeat

Shoreham Football Club suffered a second cup defeat in four days when they lost 4-2 after extra-time at home to Pagham on Tuesday evening.

Mussels boss Bryan O’Toole made seven changes from the team that started the FA Vase defeat to Glebe on Saturday and saw his side lead 2-0 after 22 minutes. Kevin Keehan’s 30-yard lob gave them the lead, before Jamie Cradock made it 2-0 two minutes later.

Freddie Barker and Richard Greenfield had opportunities for a third, before Scott Murfin got a goal back for Pagham on 71 minutes. Both teams were reduced to ten men on 85 minutes when Keehan and Dan Swain were dismissed and the visitors levelled in injury-time through Kieron Pamment.

Goals from Callum Overton and Joe Shelley took Pagham through in extra-time, although Mussels twice hit the woodwork through Rob O’Toole and George Gaskin.

Bryan O’Toole said: “I made seven changes to give other players game time and we went 2-0 up but then let it go. We should have killed the game off as we had the chances.”

SHOREHAM: Stroomberg; Packer, J.Keehan, Zydonik, Hartley; Martin, Boddy, K.Keehan; Greenfield, Barker, Cradock. Subs: Gaskin (Barker 60), Stevens (Cradock 65), R.O’Toole (Greenfield 72), O’Hagan.
