THE FUTURE OF SKELMERSDALE UNITED

By Kevin Panther

We are on the move

Skelmersdale United F.C. as of yet and despite numerous attempts not been able to persuade their landlord Chequer Properties Limited to commit to a new twelve year lease as per terms of our current lease, although this lease does not expire until November 2017 there has been an urgent need to renew now so as to comply with our league rules namely that we have to have in place a security of tenure by no later than 5pm. on the 31st. march 2017 for the following playing season(aug. 2017 - May 2018) without this the club would be evicted from the league and technically out of business.
Therefore the Skelmersdale management board so as to secure the immediate future of the club have had to look at other ways to achieve security of tenure for next season and the only way that could be achieved was to enter into a groundshare agreement with another club, I am glad to say that we have accomplished this and Mr. Anthony Zavarona the Chairman of Prescot Cables F.C. who has been nothing but extremely helpful has come to our rescue I can't thank him enough.

This will however incur great added cost to the club through lost revenue should we not be able to convince Chequer Properties Limited and we eventually have to vacate the ground in November, the knock on effect to the community is also to be considered, we employ staff, we buy supplies from a great many businesses in the local area, and we have an approx. footfall through the ground and social club of 35,000 each year.
We the club are still looking for the support of the people and businesses of Skelmersdale , although recently we have been contacted by people as far afield as Canada, Australia, and the Middle East.

Please do not let this be the end of your football club.

Paul Griffiths Chairman.
