Burnley 12 - Skipton 38

By Mark Walton

The men of the White Rose travelled to the dark lands to face a side two levels higher in the RFU scheme of things!! And boy did they perform.

With a week off from league rugby the 1st XV travelled to Burnley to hopefully make it 9 wins in 10. With a few experienced players rested a young squad made the journey to a side two levels higher, 12 months ago this would have meant something, now the boys in red respect everyone but fear no one.

The game was played at a fast pace on the large undulating pitch, the Burnley team were all about the forwards, big, strong and direct, with the 10s left peg resembling a cannon at times. Skipton however were about the space, the off loads, the deft touches and as for kicking well they just don't!!!

The game ebbed and flowed with try's coming at regular intervals, 2 from Carver, 2 Langstaff, 1 Berrey, there were a couple more but the scorers allude me!

In an all round squad performance, prop on a mission Luke Currie took the MVP award again, but even more pleasing was the site of 5 of last years colts playing in the pack, as well as the long awaited return from injury of Rodney Trotter. It seems the future is bright but red rather than orange.

White Rose 1, Red Rose 0, hopefully next week it will become 2 as the 1st XV make another raid into the dark lands when they take on Colne and Nelson.

War of the Roses.
The war of the roses, a bloody fight,
a battle of evil against darkness and light.
Red rose and white rose, seeking control,
a crown of thorns the ultimate prize.

Red rose and white rose, sharing land,
rivalries united with wedding plans,
Henry Tudor, Elizabeth of york, a marriage of convenience,
a welcome end to war.

Red rose and white rose, sharing land, peace restored across the land.
Revolts, execution, treachery, treason, now a thing of the past.
Red rose and white rose, in full bloom,
proudly raise their heads.

The red rose speaks of love and passion,
the white speaks of peace and tranquility.
Finally the rose knows the truth of sincerity,
mutual respect of each others true beauty.

Where next?
