Slough HC Mens 1st team took a step closer to securing the MBBO Regional 1 league title with a convincing win over local rivals Maidenhead. The away team arrived fired up and were palpably keen to not suffer a repeat of the result earlier in the season. A feisty and closely contested first half saw Maidenhead take the initiative and they created the better of the earlier chances. However, Slough's resolute defense was not in the mood to concede and thwarted the early pressure. This gave the Slough midfield and forwards the creative license to exploit their opposition and dominate the latter stages of the half. The period saw chance after chance go begging up until the dying moments of the half when they were awarded a penalty corner, whereupon Rai Singh stepped up to give Slough a one goal lead at half time.
The Pink n’ Blacks roared into the second half looking to secure the game as early as possible. They did not disappoint as Johannes Klöss added his name to the score sheet ten minutes into the half from another penalty corner. The remainder of the game saw a dominant Slough defence repel attack after attack, as the midfield and strike force continued to knocking at Maids’ door right up to the final whistle. Only an exceptional performance from the young Maidenhead goalkeeper saved them from any further blushes.
Slough have a double header next week and will be away to Marlow on Saturday (13:30 pb) and host Amersham and Chalfont on Sunday (15:30 pb).
