Maltay (Foul 82) Soham returned to action after an enforced three-week winter break, but ended the game back in the relegation zone, after Barton Rovers repeated the outcome of the reverse fixture at the start of the season, winning 1-0 to complete a League double over the Greens. With Martin Bromwich unavailable, and new striker Franck Atangana missing through injury, Andy Coleman and Sam Mason-Smith returned to the starting eleven. There was very little of any note in the opening half an hour of this game as Soham enjoyed the better of the possession without testing Wilmot in the Rovers goal. Leon Simpson and Mason-Smith both had early efforts wide, before Napier, after being played in by Mason-Smith was denied as Wilmot came off his line to save at the attackers feet. Austin also delivered a dangerous ball across the visitors area from the right, but neither Mason-Smith nor Benjamin could get close enough to connect. Barton finally made the breakthrough in the 30th minute, with the first clear shot at goal, when Colm Kierans deflected shot from the edge of the area made its way past Bircham. This goal seemed to give the visitors more confidence as they made more attacks at the Soham goal; Bilal Hassan had a goal disallowed moments later for offside, while a well-timed Austin challenge just inside the area denied Simpson a shot at goal. Bircham also had to be alert to push away Wilsons in swinging corner off the line in injury time. The better of the games chances came after the interval, although there were no further goals. Case and Hipwell both had early efforts at the opposition keeper, before Kierans placed into the side netting from an acute angle. Bull also had a few opportunities, but on three separate occasions put wide of the post. Looking for an equaliser, Soham introduced Dubi Ogbonna for Tom Benjamin just after the hour mark, and the substitute was straight into the action, forcing a low save from Wilmot with only his second touch. The keeper again denied the striker moments later when he came out to block with his feet, with Carter placing over from distance with the follow up, while a Rovers defender headed Hipwells in swinging corner onto the roof of his own bar. With just over ten minutes remaining, Barton sub Toomley volleyed over from Leon Simpsons flick on, before Wilmot thwarted Ogbonna again, making a low save from a curling freekick. After receiving a cross-field pass, Case battled his way through the Soham area, past a couple of players, firing wide of the far post. Bircham than made a fine full stretch save to keep out Ojurokes shot, before deep into injury time, Ogbonna had one last opportunity for an equaliser, but after being played in by Carter, the ball appeared to stick with the striker failing to get in his effort at goal.
