Following the injury time defeat at home to Ware during the week, the Greens made three changes to the side for their final home fixture on the season as Gary Cohen and Lewis Clayton returned to the side, whilst assistant manager Erkan Okay made for his first start.
On a hot day, there was little between the two sides during the opening forty-five minutes with play regularly switching ends although neither keeper really had a meaningful save to make with Easterford, Dicks, Gillies and Mulready all heading behind during the first half.
Mulready fired an early shot into the side netting early in the second half before the visitors introduced Fahad Nyanja for Ben Sartain eight minutes after the restart. The change appeared to give Bowers a lift, and within minutes Vyse had a header cleared off the goal line by a home defender from a corner before Nyanja fired an angled shot across the face of goal, before cutting in and putting over and setting up Vyse who headed over. Midway through the half, Mulready on the turn placed wide, before Carden forced Chafer to parry his shot from distance, whilst subs Connor and Hughes put wide from outside the area. With eight minutes remaining, Bowers finally had the ball in the net however Nyanja’s effort was ruled out by the officials for a foul on Knight in the build-up. The visitors had another goal ruled out moments later when Hughes was deemed to be in an offside position when he collected Easterford’s ball. Just when it looked like the two sides would be sharing the points, Bowers finally broke the deadlock in the 86th minute when Pinto and Knight combined down the left of the area, with the ball being delivered across goal for the unmarked Nyanja to back heel the ball over the line from close range. Three minutes later the substitute doubled his and his side’s tally to make sure of the three points when Pope failed to deal with a long ball up field into the area, with the ball falling to Knight, whose shot was saved by the keeper with Nyanja following up to convert.
