30-09-2018 - Oadby Wyggestonian - A

Match number 2!

Our match on 30th September 2018 should have been against Leicester Lions but due to them not being able to field a team we found ourselves at Oadby Wyggestonian RFC. We were two men down - Tai due to a prolonged head injury and Zak was unable to make it.

South kicked off the first half, Oadby caught the ball, made two maybe three passes, broke through and scored their first try in the first minute. Not the start we were hoping for. The ease of this try seemed to wake the lads up a bit, they started tackling more efficiently and held Oadby, albeit in our half, a safe distance from our goal line. Unfortunately, just holding them wasn’t enough and two more tries were scored by the Home team. Luckily for South, Oadby had missed all the conversions so far and were only leading 15 – 0.

Unfortunately for South Corban wasn’t able to start the second half due to breathing difficulties so Oadby lent us 3 players meaning both teams had the full 15-man side. Oadby kicked, South caught and got tackled, the ball went into a ruck which Oadby turned over and ran into score. Two minutes later Oadby swept past the South back line for their second try of the second half. At this point South had a turn of face. The forwards led by Kian started smashing their way through the Oadby front line. Cole and Joe both had excellent runs but were taken down. South showed a bit of fight and held off Oadby for another 14 minutes until ‘a badly timed pass’ from an Oadby loaned player let the Oadby number 13 intercept and run away for a try. At this point South’s lack of fitness started to show and Oadby scored another two tries followed by conversations, taking the final score to Oadby 56, South 0.
