Saxons Mens 1's scare off the Crows in away fixture.

By

Report by Nate Webster. South Saxons travelled to Crowborough knowing that a win would significantly bolster their chances of avoiding relegation on a very sunny day at a very sandy Beacon Community College.

The game started well with Saxons coming out of the gates quickly and taking the lead within minutes with a strong run by Coombs being flicked over the Crowborough Keeper's shoulder from a narrow angle. This woke Crowborough up and they consistently frustrated the Saxons defence to no avail being well kept out by a resolute Meredith, Taylor, Cload, Reed & Young Goalkeeper Nate Webster.

However, it did not take the Crows long to break the clean sheet with a miss trapped penalty corner being hit into the bottom corner past the outstretched Webster. This and the constant attacks frustrated Saxons & after a green and a yellow Card they managed to keep it cool and calm down.

Saxons used their newfound composure to attack and quickly regained their lead with a good run by Acott being sportingly passed around the Goalkeeper to young striker Bailey Wright who smashed home his first goal for the 1st team. This re-woke Saxons and they manage to hold off the availing Crowborough attacks while really threatening up the other end with Wright gaining confidence going around Man after Man with the Strong Assistance of Beal, Coombs, Acott, Cornish, Meredith and Stainsby.

The second half started with Saxons desperate to increase their lead, Attack after attack went to no avail being well kept out by a strong Crowborough defence with the only break through being a low flick by Beale to net his 10th Goal in 3 Games!

Crowborough managed to turn the Saxons dominance against them and midway through the half managed to catch them on the counter with a good run being finished off well past Nate Webster's right glove! This engaged the Saxons strikers and enabled them to put their finishing Gloves on with Acott smartly running down the right, rounding several players including the Goalkeeper and finishing from a tight angle past a defender on the line to cap off a victory. Saxons continued to hammer on the Crowborough door hoping for a 5th with Beal being excellently denied by the Crowborough postman from a high goal bound drag flick past the already beaten Goalkeeper. Saxons continued this dominance right up to the full time whistle winning 4-2 in the end & securing a vital 3 Points.

Saxons play at home to Horsham 2's at 1:30 this Saturday at Horntye Park, hoping to secure another 3 points to aid the push for 5th Place and avoid the relegation playoff spots.

MOTM: Nate Webster
