Chairman Announces Vision

By Richard Curtis

Stamford AFC has announced the appointment of David Whitby as its new Chairman.

David, 52, joined the club’s Board of Directors in 2011 and is Managing Director of Peterborough based company Nationwide Hydraulics Ltd.

“It is a great honour and privilege to be asked to be Chairman of Stamford AFC by the Board of Directors. This club has been a passion of mine for a long period of time, having firstly played for the Daniels in the early 1980s and then being elected onto the Board six years ago. Since becoming a director I have experienced promotion and relegation, a move to our fantastic new stadium and the historic achievement of reaching the first round proper of the FA Cup for the first time in its 121 year history.

Amongst various key objectives for the club during this 2017/18 campaign, a return to the premier division of the Northern Premier League has to be our top priority. If alongside our efforts in the league we could replicate another successful FA Cup run like last season or a similar achievement in the FA Trophy it would be a huge bonus.

Last season the support at the Zeeco Stadium was superb in both league and cup ties. However, a particular personal highlight was seeing over 500 fans make the long trip to Hartlepool in the first round of the FA Cup – this memory makes me extremely proud to represent this club and will stay with me for a long time.

The Zeeco Stadium and the Borderville sports centre now provide the perfect facilities to enable the club through its commercial activities to climb the non-league pyramid to new heights. I would like to thank all our partners and sponsors for their support since moving to the new ground and the club looks forward to working with you in the forthcoming season. The club is currently developing a number of new initiatives and ideas along with a new calendar of events in which we would invite and welcome both supporters’ and sponsors’ involvement. Indeed, our new facility has become a social and community hub within the Stamford and surrounding area with a constant flow of private events and functions being held.

We now look forward to an attractive list of pre-season fixtures as Graham and his management team assemble the squad for the season ahead. I would like to take this opportunity in wishing the supporters, sponsors and all connected with Stamford AFC a great summer.”
