It started in July 2017 and has included already two junior football tournaments, Jack Hogg memorial shield, legends match and a disability match. The next instalment sees veterans match at the Zeeco stadium.
On Sunday 25th February a PDFL veterans team will take on England vets, kicking off at 2pm. The PDFL vets will be assembled from teams playing in the various leagues from across the region. The England vets are made up of amateur players who will travel from around the country to participate.
Chairman of the 125 committee, Derek Gibson, commented, the Peterborough football association is involved in an incredible amount of work on behalf of football, most of it will be unknown to many footballers participating in the PDFL. The PFA council of which most will be retiring at the end of the season, will pass on their knowledge to the next generation of council members.
The PFA is a subsidiary of Northants FA, working closely with neighbouring FA’s including Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Leicestershire, Rutland and Huntingdonshire. The season long celebrations culminate with a dinner at the bull hotel in Peterborough in June.
Paul Pepper commercial manager at Stamford said. We are delighted to be associated with the PFA’s 125th celebrations. We hope the match on 25th February will bring together old friends and possibly some old enemies? It will be a time to reminisce and enjoy the day with a little bit of football thrown in!!!
