There was a change between the sticks with Sam Vince making his debut for the Daniels following his move from Wisbech Town. Chris Salt returned from suspension, but Rob Morgan was missing due to other commitments.
The start of the match was low key with neither side troubling either goal. This changed after thirteen minutes when a mix up between the Daniels defence and new keeper Sam Vince left Damien Stevens with free shot on goal with Vince stranded but his shot was wide of the goal.
About five minutes later, Stamford had their first effort of the game. Bradley Fortnam-Tomlinson hit his shot straight at Robert Dean in the home goal, but the keeper was able to palm it away for a corner.
Stamford took the lead on thirty-four minutes after a spell of pressure on the Marske goal. A long throw from Jon Challinor found its way to Stan Mugisha and the Daniels forward hooked the ball towards goal with Dean in the home goal wrong footed.
Five minutes later, the home side came close to equalising. When Glen Butterworth’s shot cannoned off the top of the crossbar with Vince stranded.
Into the second half and the home side again almost levelled when Curtis Round hits a shot goal wards, but Josh Egginton is able to clear the ball off the line.
Mugisha then had a chance to double the lead for Stamford after sixty-four minutes but his shot was well saved by the home keeper.
The home side had an effort a few minutes later with Kevin Hayes but shot was wide of the goal and did not trouble Vince in the Daniels goal.
With the game about to enter the final fifteen minutes the home side did get themselves an equaliser. A Glen Butterworth header crashed against the post and Callum Martin was first to react to stab the ball home past Vince.
Fortnam-Tomlinson then had an effort for the Daniels, but his shot was straight at Dean in the Marske goal. The home side then broke, and Vince saved an effort at the expense of a corner. From the resultant corner the ball was headed home by Josh Rowbotham.
In the dying seconds of the game, Stamford had a chance to level, but Eliot Putman’s header was easily saved by the Marske keeper.
