Adams Strike Secures Win
A Liam Adams strike early in the second half was enough for Stamford to secure a home tie against Kettering Town in the next round of the FA Trophy.
The evening started with turmoil after the vehicle carrying the kit and manager Graham Drury were held up in traffic due to a road accident. This meant the team having to play in a borrowed kit from their hosts and assistant manager Danny Hussey looking after team affairs.
Stamford have the first chance of the game when Bradley Fortnam-Tomlinson had a shot from distance, but the shot was saved Danny Roberts in the home goal.
The home side thought they had opened the scoring on fifteen minutes when Jordan Johnson slotted home, but the Leek forward was in an offside position.
Midway through the first half Fortnam-Tomlinson had another effort but his hooked shot was wide of the goal.
Leek then had an effort but Darren Chadwick put his shot wide of the goal. Marc Grocott then had a shot but this was easily saved by Dan Haystead.
With five minutes remaining, the home side again thought they had scored, this time through Aaron Bott but again the linesman ruled out the effort due to being off-side.
At the start of the second half, Stamford almost opened the scoring when captain Jake Duffy hit a shot which cannoned off the post with the goalkeeper beaten.
The only goal of the game came after fifty-two minutes when Fortnam-Tomlinson put in a teasing cross from the left who found Liam Adams who slotted the ball past the Leek keeper to score his first goal of the season.
There were then efforts on goal at both ends. First Rob Stevenson had a shot which was saved by Haystead, then Joe Burgess had a shot saved by Roberts in the home goal.
The Daniels were up against it on 61 minutes when Kern Miller was shown a straight red after a foul on Jordan Johnson.
The home side piled on the pressure and Scott Lycett had an effort that Haystead tipped onto the crossbar. They then had another effort from Bott which resulted in a goal mouth scramble.
In the end the Daniels back line held firm to secure their place in the next round of the FA Trophy.
