Tamworth suffered last minute heartbreak at the hands of Walsall as victory was snatched from their grasp in an end to end fixture which saw the lead change hands on several occasions.
Heavy overnight rain made the pitch extremely heavy and it was always going to be a slog but both teams started brightly Tamworth moving into an early lead with a Danny Norton penalty 3-0
The lead didn’t last long when Walsall scored a converted try 3-7
The momentum swung back in Tamworth’s favour when Walsall failed to clear and the ball was turned over well by Liam McGreevy and was spread wide for Jimmy Carroll to score in the corner 8-7
Walsall upped the pressure on Tamworth and were awarded a penalty try to move into a 14-8 lead
Tamworth re-took the lead a few minutes later when Leighton Norton forced his way over. His brother Danny was successful with the conversion 15-14.
The teams then exchanged penalty’s 18-17 before Kieran Jackson scored a great try after another smart turnover from the forwards. Norton converted to move into a 25-17 lead.
Walsall got right back into the mix with another good converted try to get back to within a point 25-24.
Norton eased Tamworth further ahead with a penalty 28-24 before the the killer blow from Walsall. As the clock ran out they inched towards the Tamworth line eventually forcing their way over to snatch victory by a single point.
