Ladies 1sts team continue to impress.

By Mike Rushmere

Even at this new higher level, the results continue to show potential for the team.

Thirsk ladies 1st traveled across the wolds to play Driffield ladies 1st this weekend. Both teams set off in a low gear, taking a while to get into their mojo . Within 10 minutes Thirsk grabbed a goal which instantly changed the whole impetus of the game. With many denied chances Thirsk put their heads down and battled hard to allow Bea Bell the opportunity to score, this time off a well earned short corner. After half time Driffield rallied back with a goal and some impressive attacking. Thirsk defence was put under pressure but their resilience was admirable with Georgie Turner being awarded man of the match for her immense defence technique which proved a real challenge to Driffield. Emily Hamby showed great ball awareness in goal and did herself proud on her debut performance for the 1st team this season. Thirsk capitalised with their 15 strong squad and managed to wear Driffield down. Cathryn Barret raised the score to 3 with a great hit on goal and Megan Allen was very unfortunate not to score with a rebound off the cross bar in the closing minutes of the game. Thirsk bagged a second victory of season with the final score being 3 - 1. A great result for a such a young team venturing into a new league.
