Dockers Produce Good Performance But Undone by Clinical Dereham

By

Dereham Town 3 Tilbury 0 Att 133

Tilbury suffered a 3-0 defeat away to play off hopefuls Dereham Town in a game they could have got so much more from, after a good first half performance, but went in to the break behind.

Joe Keith made 2 changes to his line up with Charlie Little and Tom Dance returning in place on Conor Mead and Joe Turpin.

It was the Dockers who took the game to there hosts, but were undone by a mistake in the 10th minute with a well-taken individual goal. James Cooper collected the ball on the half way line and ran through unchallenged to hit a powerful effort past Bogard.

Tilbury came close to equalising 2 minutes later when Toby Aromolaran’s header struck the underside of the bar, after a cross from Kris Newby. On 21 Adam Vyse was close after a good ball from Ross Gleed, before on 35 Tilbury forced Pride into a fantastic save when Toby Aromolaran’s skillful overhead kick was saved. Despite the pressure Dereham counter attacked and made it 2-0 on 38. Hinton found Ashley Jarvis who released Cooper and the young striker progressed before slotting home his second. Only a fine close-range save by Bogard from Jarvis prevented Dereham extending their advantage before the break. There was still time for Aromolaran seeing his strike hit the base of the post and Newby's low effort deflected wide as it was going in.

Despite Tilbury playing well, Dereham looked dangerous on the attack. In the 65th minute Jamie Forshaw fired over from 20 yards whilst off balance, but Dereham did wrap it up with 15 minutes remaining with a good effort. The effective Rhys Logan turned his man on the right before passing inside to Forshaw who hammered the ball into the roof of the net.

The Dockers had a chance to get back in the game in the 83rd minute after Kris Newby was upended in the area, but Adam Vyse could only clip the top of the bar with the spot kick.

The result sees Tilbury drop to 17th. Tilbury return to action on Tuesday night when visit 2nd place side Bowers & Pitsea.

After the game a disappointed Manager Joe Keith said " It's probably the best footballing performance since I came here, but Dereham were a very clinical side on the day"
