WEEKLY ROUNDUP (19TH APRIL)

By TLC Admin

Club-wide roundup by David Shuttleworth

We are definitely in the fag end of the season with most of the league business finished and the junior programmes pretty much finished. However, for Men’s and Boy’s Lacrosse we still have the highlight of the season still to come with the Flags Final Weekend at Rochdale. For Timperley there is a lot of interest at Rochdale. The Men’s B team has a Lancashire Junior Cup Final against Heaton Mersey B. Mersey have been the stand out team in North1 this season so they will be tough opposition for Timperley. In a Cup Final anything can happen so let’s all get to Rochdale and support the B team!

Timperley have a team in each of the Junior Finals which is a tremendous achievement. I do not recollect it ever being done by any club before!! If anyone does recall this being done by any other club please give me information on a postcard.

The Flags are on Saturday 22nd April and Sunday 23rd April.

On Saturday;
U14 v Stockport/Norbury Face 1pm
B team v Heaton Mersey B Face 2pm

On Sunday;
U16 v Mellor Face 11am
U12 v Cheadle Face 2pm

It will be a tough weekend for Timperley so we will need all the support that we can get. Rochdale is a great weekend with food and drink and a range of equipment and clothing retailers. Great fun for everyone.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE A TEAM
For most of the year the Timperley A team were victorious and promotion back to the Championship seemed certain. However in the tail end of the season, having lost unexpectedly to Liverpool, they ran into a brick wall in the form of Rochdale A who beat Timperley in two League fixtures and knocked them out of the Cup. Promotion depended on Timperley clinging on to second place with other results going their way.
It is pleasing to say that Timperley have achieved their goal and will next season be playing in the very competitive Championship. It is what a young Timperley team need and what the club needs if it is be, as it should be, challenging for major honours. Players who are asked to step up to the Premiership need to be playing a level of lacrosse which makes a move up as easy as possible.
Adam Henbury has done an impressive job leading a group of young players who can only improve going forward.

WOMEN FINISH SECOND

Timperley women at last wrapped up what has seemed a disjointed season by coming second to Oxton in the Stockport 8s.
Finishing second to Oxton seems to be their lot at the moment with a second place in the League.
Hopefully we can go that one place higher next season.

SUMMER TRAINING

A cornerstone of the Timperley programme in recent years has been Summer Training where players are able to improve their individual skills and practice in the teams they will play in next season.
So far this year only a few boys have signed up for Summer Training which starts in early May (Wed 3rd May for U14 and U16 boys and U15 and U18 girls; Sat 6th May for U10 and U12 Boys and U11 and U13 girls). Clearly for the boys teams being in the Rochdale Finals has been the focus of attention so hopefully after this coming weekend’s games players will be able to focus on next season.
