“This programme alongside the enjoyment and excitement that a home World Cup brings will help clubs get as many people as possible into this beautiful game.” Lewis Moody
With the Rugby World Cup just around the corner, local clubs up and down the country are hoping the exposure a home-soil tournament brings will convert into a bumper crop of new players returning to the game at a grassroots level.
To help speed up this back-to-the-clubhouse influx Warley RFC have been selected as one of 50 English rugby clubs to take part in England Rugby’s new Return to Rugby campaign. This is all part of the RFU’s legacy commitment to increase participation levels during and after the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
Tailor-made training sessions have been developed by English Rugby with support from Sport England to help clubs deliver purpose-designed opportunities that meet the needs of returning players. Warley RFC will be getting fully involved and are running a series of Return to Rugby sessions for a 8 week period. The first session will take place on Tuesday, 15 September at Warley Rugby Club, Tat Bank Road, Oldbury, B69 4NH.
The Return to Rugby training sessions are all designed to be social occasions with the emphasis on enjoyment, inclusivity and aimed at all fitness and skill levels. Going at a pace that suits each individual participant, it is hoped these taster sessions will provide the right encouragement for many to go onto play rugby on a regular basis after the 2015 World Cup.
The Return to Rugby training sessions are being supporting by a national marketing campaign, fronted by ex-England captain Lewis Moody. A video featuring Lewis encouraging potential former players to get involved is available. This video can be personalised, so you can challenge your own friends and family to return to the game.
Moody, who is the face of the initiative, said: “I was absolutely delighted when England Rugby asked me to get behind the Return to Rugby programme. I am involved in coaching at my local club, so I understand first-hand the challenges faced in recruiting new players.
“This programme alongside the enjoyment and excitement that a home World Cup brings will help clubs get as many people as possible into this beautiful game.”
