Bowlers made to toil as batsmen make hay...

Summer showed no signs of stopping as Waverley travelled to Bagshot. Andy Minshaw ("the Mincer"), Adrian Day ("Mog"), Marcus Carmichael ("MC"), Simon Brewer ("KV"), Sam Vass ("Peppa"), Warren Vass ("Wozza"), Jamie Harris ("DJ Teabag"), Sam Tempest ("Troy"), Adam Carmichael ("AC"), Bob Moxham ("Sponge Bob") and David Stockwell ("Stockrates") were on show for the visitors.

Teabag and AC were tasked with utilising the new ball, which was promptly lost in a hedge with the second delivery of the game (which at least gave Mr B an excuse to go poking around in the bushes). Some may have felt this was a sign of things to come and they'd have been right. Despite being greener than Raoul after a dodgy KFC bargain bucket, the pitch offered little to the bowlers and bar the odd bouncer the Bagshot openers looked comfortable. The bowling was reshuffled as Ishak passed his half-century and go-to bowler Troy once again did the business, luring Ishak into a false shot that was pouched at mid-wicket by Stockrates. One became two in the next over when KV brought one back in to castle Passfield. However, the visitors could do little about the short leg-side boundary and the technical ability of the Bagshot batsmen. Grinstead in particular was proving to be a real thorn in Waverley's side as he too went past his half-century. 63 runs were added for the third wicket before Troy shattered the partnership by shattering Samuel's stumps. Further bowling changes brought more good fortune for Waverley, skipper Mog inducing an edge to the Mincer with his first delivery. However, that was the end of the wicket-taking as Bagshot went for the jugular, battering the visitors' attack into submission as Grinstead brought up a well-made century. 21 runs off what turned out to be the final over (including a six last seen heading in the direction of the M3) prompted a declaration with the home side on a daunting 266-4, certainly no reflection on Waverley's bowlers of fielders.

After the interval (during which the main talking point was the outright refusal by Stockrates to get his mother a cup of tea), the Mincer and Mog looked to chase down the Bagshot total. There was an early setback as Mog chipped one back to Farrant for a caught and bowled. When the Mincer feathered behind for 25 and MC was bowled through the gate for 18, the 20 overs was already under way and victory was but a distant dream. But by the same token, the pitch remained placid and Waverley never looked in any real danger of losing with KV and Peppa at the crease. KV is in the hunt for a ton that would make him Waverley's joint-leading century maker and once he passed his half-century, he exploded into life. Boundary after boundary was crashed, with Peppa focussing on giving KV the strike. Just as looked like the milestone was in sight KV, on 94, mistimed a drive straight back to the bowler and J Skilton snaffled the chance. By this stage there were only three overs remaining, which Peppa and Wozza negotiated with ease as Waverley secured the draw.

KV won the Man of the Match Hat for his score of 94, but also won the Supporters' Egyptian Hieroglyph Pink T-shirt after being observed 'sashaying'. In view of Waverley's toil and all-round effort in the field, the Pink T-shirt and the *Anchor Hat weren't awarded. Meanwhile, Stockrates was 'reprimanded' by Sponge Bob in the changing rooms for not getting his mum a cup of tea, whilst the remainder of the team were treated to the dance of the seven veils courtesy of Mog...
