On Saturday, Lynchmere beat Waverley by 61 runs. Lynchmere’s Richard Saulet and Tom Cain started cautiously against Sam Tempest and Jamie Harris and when the second wicket went down at 55 after 16 overs, it was honours even. The introduction of Adrian Day and Peter Brewer into the attack turned the game the visitors’ way and, at 89-7, a quick game looked certain. Steve Cain and Tyler repaired the damage with a late partnership of 61 and then Cain and Murrell added another 28 to take the total to 178-8.
Waverley lost Jim Wright without scoring, but the pairing of Marcus Carmichael and Simon Brewer took the score to 100-4 and it was ‘game on’. However, a sudden batting collapse to Saulet and Peter Varnes saw the visitors score only 17 more runs. Unsuitable batting technique was their downfall.
