Youthful Elstead triumph
By Adrian Day
Batting collapse dooms Waverley
Batting first Waverley lost skipper
James Wright with 21 on the board and when
Marcus Carmichael went to young Ollie Lincoln at 38 it started a middle order collapse with Lincoln taking the prize wickets of
Simon Brewer and Tom Wenham each for a duck. The visitors were soon at 56 for 8 and only a last wicket partnership of 49 between
Sam Tempest and
Peter Brewer enabled the score to creep over the 100 mark. Elstead replied with a first wicket stand of 49 between Pete Lincoln and John Warren and it looked as if the game was all but over. At this point
Adrian Day’s wickets started to get Waverley back into the game but runs were also mounting up. Finally with Ollie Lincoln and John Little the last pair in, the match was on a knife edge but a scrambled 1 and a bye sent victory to the home side in a truly well fought and enjoyable game.
