First Ever Scottish Cup Win for Weirs!

By Colin Baxter

Weirs ended their miserable run in the Scottish Cup with a fine win away against Renfrew on Sunday.

Weirs bowled Renfrew out for just 111, Mo Ali taking 4 for 18, and then breezed to the target of 112 for the loss of just 1 wicket. It puts Weirs into the second round against either Glasgow Accies or GHK.

It was a good comeback for the Weirs 1st XI as 24 hours earlier they had been well beaten by Drumpellier in the League. Weirs were bowled out for a paltry 62 and Drumpellier easily won by 8 wickets.

There was a good victory for the 2nd XI on Saturday though as they beat Langloan by 31 runs. Zaheed Hussain made an excellent knock of 70 as Albert Park made it to 159 all out. Langloan appeared to be heading for victory at 97 for 1 but then collapsed to just 128 all out. Ghulam Raja took 3 wickets for Albert Park and Brendon Hillyard and Sherali Afzal both took 2 a piece.
