Alan Young Obituary

By Adam Pace

SSWRFC's oldest 1st team player

It is with great sadness that South Shields Westoe RFC announce the passing of club veteran Alan Young.

Alan was brought into the sport by fellow veteran John Tighe in 1971, where they played at Redheads RFC. When Redheads RFC disbanded in 1976, Alan, John and several others moved over here to Westoe RFC.

Alan first played Full Back but eventually moved into the forwards, ending up at Prop for the rest of his career.

He continued playing 2nd and 3rd team rugby well into his 40s and was called up to the 1st team at the age of 50 years old. He showed that experience, skill and passion doesn't waver with age.

All at the club would like to offer our condolences to Alan's family, along with our thoughts and prayers.
