The Mighty Wizards v Guildford
15 Wizards. A fantastic first half. Resolute and terrific win.
15 Wizards turned up for this one but if you've been following the team you know that it's been a tough season so far!
In goal: Martin Chase.
In defence: Ian Ellis(capt), Doc, Ian Bisson and Rory.
In Midfield: Gaunty, Steve Perkins, Richard Jones, Griz, Mark Hart and Richard Ellis.
In attack: Steff, Johnny Mac and all the way from the East, Shania Swain.
Supporters: Rob Churcher and Rob Bryan.
What a first half it was, we dominated the play and really put pressure on a strong Guildford side - we were stronger in the tackle, first to the breakdowns and first to the 50:50s. When we lost the ball we were back hunting it down and we were at it for the whole 35 minutes! Johnny Mac was running all over the pitch, as usual, Jonesy scored 2 goals and Shania scored one from a short corner after some strong play. Steve Perkins, Jonesy and Ian Bisson controlled the middle of the pitch and cut Guildford down to a couple of chances in the first half so we went into half time 3-1.
In the second half of games, this season, we have fallen off the pace and conceded late goals. Worryingly, after about 20 mins of the second half, a few of us started to look tired and Shania dropped further back - pushing Jonesy upfront. However, the Mighty Wizards stuck to the task and tackled strongly, chasing everything down. Doc and Rory made some crucial tackles in our 23 and made some goal saving blocks in our D, but the second half was dominated by Martin Chase, who saved several shots and was unbeatable! The Mighty Wizards did have chances 2nd half with Griz hitting a shot just wide and Johnny Mac having the ball in their 23. We hung on and WON the game 3-1.
What a game and what a result - the whole team were working hard for each other right till the end.
The Wizards have 3 points and are looking for more! There are 2 games next week, at the moment, so lots more fun to come!
Chichester away next Saturday, so let's all turn up again and cause another shock!
PS - big thanks to Pip Hart and Peter Wedderburn for great umpiring.
