Acklam overwhelm Aycliffe in a first half blitz
Acklam overwhelmed visitors Newton Aycliffe, scoring 9 tries in a first half blitz and 13 in all to run up an 81 -5 scoreline.
The writing was on the wall straight from the kick off, taken by openside Paddy O'Brien from whom the ball was quickly moved out wide to winger
Josh Abraham who beat his man before passing back inside for full back Brad Gater to open the scoring.
A few minutes later Acklam lost a lineout but soon won the ball back and it went right then left in a flowing move resulting in a try for second row
Danny Moss, converted by stand off Danny Ashton for a 12 nil lead. Three more tries followed in quick succession with Abraham fully involved - first from a scrum when he fed
Chris Mallam who came across from the opposite wing to score. He then gave Gater his second try before going clear and round behind the posts himself.
The first half tries continued to flow as centre
Marcus Sudron and O'Brien got in on the scoring, followed by Abraham's second and Gater's hat trick try.
Acklam had run riot and racked up an amazing 53 nil lead after just over half an hour. To their credit Aycliffe heads didn't go down - they fought hard and prevented another Acklam score for the next twenty minutes. Then Gater returned the compiment when he made a good run then put Abraham over for his own hat trick. A few minutes later Abraham could have scored again but instead passed inside to supporting forward
Nathan Thompson to get the try.
Towards the end Aycliffe saw some reward for their efforts when the home side gifted them an interception try. However, there was still time for Abraham to finish a great personal performance with his fourth try and Sudron to get his own second and round off Acklam's overwhelming 81 - 5 victory.
